Advocacy & Communications Specialist (P-3) – Bujumbura

About the role

The Advocacy and Communications Specialist (P-3) will support UNICEF’s mission in Burundi by designing and executing advocacy and communication strategies that promote children’s rights. This temporary eight‑month appointment is based in Bujumbura and works closely with senior staff, partners and media to generate impact for children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement advocacy strategies that influence policy makers and stakeholders.
• Design and execute communication strategies, including digital content and media relations.
• Manage digital communications, social media campaigns and public outreach.
• Lead monitoring and evaluation of advocacy and communication activities.
• Oversee project planning, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Provide capacity‑building support to UNICEF teams and partners.
• Engage with stakeholders, including government, NGOs and the private sector.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Public Policy, International Relations, Communication, Development or a related field.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in advocacy, campaigning or communications.
• Fluency in French and at least intermediate proficiency in English.
• Knowledge of an additional UN language or a local language is an asset.
• Experience working in international, development or emergency contexts is desirable.
