Communication and Campaign Intern

About the role

This internship offers a hands‑on opportunity to support communication and advocacy efforts within a humanitarian context. You will work closely with the programme and advocacy teams to create compelling stories, manage campaign activities, and ensure that all materials reflect the organization’s branding and child safeguarding standards.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and edit success stories, impact narratives, and other communication pieces for reports, newsletters, the SCI website and social media channels.
• Organise and lead campaign activities, develop advocacy messages, and amplify the voices of children and survivors of sexual and gender‑based violence.
• Collect field stories, beneficiary testimonials and programme highlights, acting as a liaison between advocacy, communications and media units.
• Support the programme team with presentations, operation reports and final briefs, ensuring consistency with branding guidelines.
• Assist in designing visual materials such as graphics, posters and flyers, and document field activities through photos and short videos where appropriate.
• Promote and apply the Child Safeguarding Policy, reporting any concerns and ensuring that work does not put children at risk.
• Perform other duties as required by programme management.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Development Studies or a related field.
• Strong writing and storytelling abilities, especially in humanitarian or development settings.
• Demonstrated interest in child protection, humanitarian action and NGO communication.
• Ability to handle sensitive information and work respectfully with vulnerable populations.
• Fluency in French and Kirundi; English knowledge is an asset.
• Commitment to SCI’s mission, values and child‑rights principles.

Required skills

• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint for creating presentations.
