Communication & Campaign Intern

About the role

This internship supports the communication and advocacy team in delivering compelling stories, campaign activities and branding materials for humanitarian and development programmes. You will work closely with field staff, programme managers and the media engagement unit to amplify the voices of children and survivors of sexual and gender‑based violence.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and edit success stories, impact narratives and newsletters for programme reports and CO communications.
• Create field content for the SCI website and social‑media channels.
• Organise and lead campaign activities in humanitarian and development contexts.
• Support the development of advocacy messages aligned with programme goals.
• Collect and document field stories, beneficiary testimonials and programme highlights.
• Act as liaison between advocacy, communications, campaign and media units.
• Assist the programme team with PowerPoint presentations, operation reports and final briefs.
• Ensure all materials follow organisational branding and humanitarian communication standards.
• Design visual communication assets such as graphics, posters and flyers.
• Document field activities through photos and short videos, respecting ethical guidelines.
• Promote child safeguarding policies and report any suspicions of abuse.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Development Studies or a related field.
• Strong writing and storytelling ability, especially in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Interest in child protection, advocacy, and campaign work within an NGO setting.
• Fluency in French and Kirundi; English proficiency is an asset.
• Commitment to SCI’s mission and values.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PowerPoint for presentation development.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
