Driver – Transport IOM Staff & Goods

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a qualified driver to transport staff, partners and authorized goods safely and efficiently in and around Bujumbura. The role supports field missions and city‑based activities, ensuring reliable mobility for IOM operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate IOM‑owned vehicles, including cars, 4x4s, buses and trucks, to transport personnel and cargo.
• Plan routes, navigate remote field locations and adhere to road‑safety and security procedures.
• Maintain vehicle logbooks, monitor fuel consumption and conduct regular inspections.
• Perform minor vehicle repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Coordinate with the Supply Chain Officer and Resource Management Officer on vehicle usage and scheduling.

Required profile

• High school diploma with at least 2 years of relevant driving experience, or a Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid national driver’s licence.
• Knowledge of local driving rules, UN and donor requirements, and UNDSS security protocols.

Required skills

• Proficiency in operating a variety of vehicle makes and models.
• Ability to perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Experience with fleet logbook management, fuel tracking and vehicle inspections.
• Familiarity with radio, email and telephone communications.
• Competence in route planning and navigation, including remote areas.
