Country Director – Burundi

About the role

CARE is seeking an experienced and visionary Country Director to lead its operations in Burundi. This senior position will guide the organization’s strategic direction, ensure operational excellence, and drive innovative, impact‑focused solutions for vulnerable communities, especially women and girls.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement CARE Burundi’s multi‑year strategy aligned with global and national priorities.
• Provide strategic leadership, ensuring program quality, financial accountability, and compliance with donor requirements.
• Represent CARE to government, civil society, private sector partners, and donors, building strong collaborative relationships.
• Lead, mentor, and manage high‑performing teams, fostering a culture of learning, adaptability, and results‑orientation.
• Drive innovation and digital transformation initiatives to enhance program effectiveness.
• Oversee budgeting, resource mobilization, and risk management to ensure sustainable growth.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development programs, preferably at country level.
• Deep understanding of the Burundi context and the ability to navigate complex environments.
• Fluent in French and English, with strong communication and advocacy skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build partnerships across government, NGOs, and the private sector.
