Remote Medical Coder – Hospital Coding Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Remote Medical Coder to join our dynamic healthcare team. Working from a secure home office, you will review complex patient records and assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes in compliance with US or UK coding standards, supporting accurate reimbursement and revenue cycle management.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze inpatient and outpatient medical records, operative reports, discharge summaries, and outpatient notes.
• Assign appropriate ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, HCPCS (US) or ICD‑10, OPCS‑4, SNOMED CT (UK) codes.
• Ensure coding compliance with federal, state, NHS and payer‑specific guidelines.
• Identify documentation gaps, query physicians or clinical staff, and resolve coding errors.
• Correct claim denials and optimize reimbursement to prevent revenue loss.
• Maintain high data integrity, participate in audits, and stay current with coding guideline updates.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of hospital medical coding experience (inpatient or outpatient) in the US or UK.
• Active certification from AAPC or AHIMA (e.g., CPC, CCS, CIC, COC) for US, or recognized UK equivalent.
• Strong command of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology.
• Proficiency with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, EMIS Web or SystmOne.
• Reliable computer (Windows 10/11 or macOS 12+), high‑speed internet and a UPS or generator backup.
• Quiet, secure, HIPAA/GDPR‑compliant workspace.
