Staff Pediatrician

About the role

The Staff Pediatrician provides comprehensive clinical care to children and newborns at Village Health Works in Kigutu, Burundi. The role blends direct patient treatment, mentorship, and participation in a multidisciplinary team focused on high‑quality, evidence‑based pediatric services.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat pediatric patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, ensuring clear communication of care plans.
• Document all clinical encounters promptly and accurately, including patient consent when required.
• Oversee admissions to the newborn care unit and special baby unit, coordinating emergency, outpatient, and inpatient services.
• Manage cases of malnutrition following Ministry of Health (MOH) and World Health Organization (WHO) protocols and apply universal precautions.
• Provide routine well‑child visits and specialty care for conditions such as mental health, epilepsy, Type 1 diabetes, and developmental challenges.
• Support clinical quality and patient safety initiatives by integrating evidence‑based practices.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or equivalent pediatric physician with strong clinical expertise.
• Commitment to delivering resource‑appropriate, evidence‑based care to vulnerable populations.
• Willingness to share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and foster a culture of teamwork and patient safety.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
