Resident Coordinator – United Nations Development System

About the role

The United Nations is seeking a Resident Coordinator for Burundi to lead the UN development system at country level. Reporting directly to the Secretary‑General, the RC will represent the UN at the highest governmental levels and drive the implementation of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations to the Government, civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia and the private sector.
• Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, ensuring alignment with national priorities and the 2030 Agenda.
• Advocate for accelerated action on the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Report annually to the host Government on the implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in international development coordination and multilateral diplomacy.
• Proven ability to lead large, multi‑agency teams in complex environments.
• Strong understanding of the 2030 Agenda and UN development frameworks.

• Strategic planning and policy coordination.
• Stakeholder engagement at senior government and multilateral levels.
• Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of development programmes.
