Senior Global Health Security & Infectious Disease Advisor (Burundi)

About the role

The Senior Global Health Security (GHS) and Infectious Disease (ID) Advisor will be embedded within Burundi’s Ministry of Health Emergency Operations Center and the National AIDS Control Program. The role provides senior technical assistance to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats while supporting the transition of HIV programs under PEPFAR directives.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical guidance to the Emergency Operations Center and National AIDS Control Program on infectious disease surveillance and response.
• Coordinate multi‑sectoral efforts with ministries of Health, Agriculture, and Environment to implement life‑saving interventions.
• Identify programmatic bottlenecks and facilitate solutions through GHS projects, the Pandemic Fund, and the Global Fund.
• Support the national HIV response and capacity building for PEPFAR transition.
• Ensure alignment with the new Presidential Executive Order directives and U.S. Department of State requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in global health security and infectious disease response.
• Proven track record working with ministries of health and multi‑sectoral coordination mechanisms.
• Familiarity with U.S. Department of State processes and Presidential Executive Order guidance.
• Willingness to be based onsite in Burundi and work closely with local government teams.
