Accountant for RISE Ebola Preparedness Project

About the role

The Accountant will join Jhpiego’s RISE Ebola Virus Disease Preparedness and Response project in Bujumbura, Burundi. Reporting to the Senior Finance & Operations Manager, you will ensure accurate, timely and compliant processing of all financial transactions supporting the six‑month project.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process payment vouchers for vendors, consultants, staff advances and reimbursements.
• Verify completeness and accuracy of supporting documents (purchase requests, purchase orders, invoices, delivery notes, timesheets, contracts).
• Enter approved transactions into QuickBooks, maintain vendor profiles and the chart of accounts.
• Support coding of transactions, fixed‑asset and inventory documentation.
• Perform bank reconciliations, statutory reporting and assist with audit preparation.
• Ensure all financial activities comply with Jhpiego policies, the Procurement Manual and U.S. Department of State regulations.
• Provide financial documentation management and occasional travel to provincial sites as required.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented professional able to work under donor and organizational compliance requirements.
• Willingness to model Jhpiego’s mission and values and contribute to knowledge sharing.
• Availability for a six‑month fixed‑term assignment in Bujumbura with occasional travel.

Required skills

• Proficiency with QuickBooks accounting software.
• Experience in processing payment vouchers and coding financial transactions.
• Bank reconciliation and statutory financial reporting.
• Preparation of audit documentation.
• Understanding of procurement and donor regulations (U.S. Department of State).
