Country Manager – Burundi

About the role

The Country Manager will shape and execute Kahawatu Foundation’s vision for the next decade of coffee farming in Burundi, addressing regenerative agriculture, climate adaptation, and household resilience.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and deliver Kahawatu’s vision for Burundi, developing a decade‑long roadmap and translating it into scalable programmes.
• Lead design and implementation of field programmes on coffee productivity, quality, regenerative agriculture and climate adaptation.
• Build evidence and demonstrate impact through indicators, data analysis and reporting to partners and funders.
• Mobilise partnerships, visibility and funding by engaging government, donors and the international coffee sector.
• Lead and develop a nimble local team, fostering collaboration, accountability and capacity building.
• Ensure sound operations, overseeing budgets, compliance and transparent resource use.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in agriculture, coffee or rural development with a track record of designing and delivering results‑oriented programmes.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑cultural teams and manage significant responsibilities.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with communities, governments, donors and private‑sector partners.
• Fluency in French and basic English; Kirundi or Swahili a plus.
• Willingness to live in Burundi and travel regularly to coffee‑growing areas.

Required skills

• Practical understanding of smallholder agricultural production.
• Experience with monitoring, evaluation and data‑driven programme improvement.
• Excellent communication and proposal development abilities.
