Country Director – Burundi

About the role

The Lutheran World Federation seeks a dynamic Country Director to lead its operations in Burundi. Based in Bujumbura with regular travel to field locations, the Director will shape and implement the organization’s humanitarian and development programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Regional Program Coordinator and ensure alignment with regional strategies.
• Provide strategic leadership to the Country Management Team and Country Programme staff, both directly and indirectly.
• Oversee programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation across the country.
• Represent LWF with government authorities, partners, donors, and local communities.
• Manage the three‑year national employment contract, including budgeting and resource allocation.

Required profile

• Significant experience in programme or project management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven senior leadership and supervisory experience.
• Legal authorization to work under a national employment contract in Burundi (Burundi nationals or permanent residents).
• Strong commitment to LWF’s values of justice, peace, and reconciliation.
